Urban Planning

Cities are engines of economic growth and social advancement, but rapid urbanization in much of the developing world has also resulted in stark inequalities between the rich and the poor, environmental degradation and growing numbers of slum dwellers. These challenges can only be resolved with integrated solutions that address the three dimensions of sustainable development, namely economic, social and environmental.

This puts a significant focus on urban and strategic spatial planning. How can urban development and architecture have a positive influence on people’s well-being? How can design contribute to more equality? The Green City Kigali plans to make the socio-economic change happen by working across sectors, levels and different stakeholders.

The project is planned to be transformational, not only for the city, but for its people. The new neighborhood will include homes, commercial spaces and light industrial areas. Schools and social spaces are as important as recreational areas including sports and open green areas.
