The Rwanda Green Fund is pleased to announce that Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBStudios), an award-winning UK-based architectural and urban design practice, has been selected to develop Green City Kigali Master Plan and detailed designs for the pilot phase. The selection was done in partnership with the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The Green City Kigali project will serve as a model for sustainable urban development that can be replicated across Rwanda and the region. The project is being implemented by the Rwanda Green Fund (FONERWA) with financial support from the German Development Cooperation through the KfW Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Through the selection process, the Rwanda Green Fund sought to appoint an experienced and qualified urban and architectural design organization to develop a master plan proposal for the Green City Kigali neighborhood, together with a detailed master plan and associated construction stage information for the pilot development.
FCBStudios will now develop the 600-hectare master plan and detailed designs for the 16-hectare pilot phase. The firm will focus on developing a prototype neighborhood community to house 10,000 people on the western slope of Kinyinya Hill. It will be based around a 400–500-meter walking distance to a neighborhood center located at the heart of the community.
Speaking on the selection of FCBStudios, the Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Green Fund, Teddy Mugabo, said:

FCBStudios will collaborate with international, regional architects and national consulting partners to deliver the master plan and detailed designs for the 16-hectare pilot phase.
The Green City Kigali will be the first of its kind in Africa. It will be a place of sustainable, affordable, green, and inclusive urban living. A place full of life.
