The validation of the mid-term feasibility study marks the successful completion of the first phase of the ambitious urban development project in Rwanda’s capital Kigali.
On this occasion, Rwanda’s Green Fund, FONERWA hosted a validation workshop on 10 September 2019 in Kigali to brief stakeholders on the Green City Kigali project.
A validation workshop is an important part of large-scale projects like the Green City Kigali. It allows for stakeholders at a variety of different levels from the local community, to national ministries, to international organizations to ask questions directly to those undertaking the feasibility study and to provide valuable comments and input to the study. It also allows for stakeholders to be briefed directly on the project with an eye to covering issues that may be pertinent.
Various presenters from the team working on the groundbreaking project provided a comprehensive review of the study, presenting the main findings of the feasibility assessment broken down into its various sectors; urban planning, housing and building technology, infrastructure, cross cutting issues and special projects.
The study also provides the foundation for the upcoming launch of the international design competition in November 2019. With the objective to procure a diversity of high-quality designs and innovative ideas, the Green City Kigali invites international architecture firms to shape the future of urban planning in Africa.
